John Wood

John Wood joined Caparo in 1991 from IMI plc, where he worked for more than 20 years, gaining valuable experience in engineering and a number of other business areas such as management, RandD, testing, production, sales and marketing, and export. His first position in Caparo was serving as the Managing Director of Barton Abrasives, and in 1993 he became the Managing Director of Clydesdale Engineering. In recognition of his achievements, in 1995 he was appointed to Chief Executive of the newly formed Caparo Engineering Division. In 1997, he was also promoted to the Board of Directors of Caparo Industries plc.

John holds a BSc (Hons) First Class Industrial Metallurgy from the University of Birmingham and a Diploma in Accounting and Finance. He is a Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and a Chartered Engineer. Throughout the years he has held a number of external positions, such as Chairman of the UK Copper Roofing Association, School Governor of Calthorpe Special School, Birmingham, and a Board Member and Honorary Treasurer of EEF West Midlands. He is currently a Wolverhampton Business Champion (post held since 2005), and in 2009 became a Member of the new EEF Midlands Regional Council.
